PARTY OF ONE NEW RELEASE SPCMN & LO
We never felt so good about being alone until we listened to this epic collab “Party of One,” by SPCMN and LO. We can’t help but dance the entire time singing “I don’t need no help, no offense!” We had to know everything about the song that made us feel cool dancing alone even if the car next to us was staring. Keep reading to hear from Lo and SPCMN on how their masterpiece came together.
THE HONEY: WHAT IS THE STORY/MESSAGE WITH YOUR SONG?
LO: “When I was younger, I was so transfixed with finding love or something that resembled it. In retrospect, I’ve come to realize that I was searching for validation instead of looking inward for that love from myself. I think that a lot of people are conditioned to think that they won’t be whole until they find their soulmate, but that just isn’t the case. We’re living in a world right now where being alone is our new normal because of the pandemic. I think it’s forcing people to spend quality time by themselves and hopefully find that self love in this alone time.”
THE HONEY: WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION?
LO: “SPCMN and I had been talking about working together for a minute and we finally got together for a session in December 2019. He played me what he had been working on and the demo for “Party of One,” stuck out to me the most. We spent most of that session talking about StarWars and about 20 percent of it on our project but those are the best sessions. When we ended our session, I got in my car to drive home and play our beat on repeat so I could try to get some ideas going. I was literally dancing in my car all the way home like a crazy person, by myself, and having a blast doing it. Then the melody came, part of the first verse and the hook while I was going through traffic. Hence, our title: party of one. Because I literally turned my car into a club during that drive home. Haha”
SPCMN: “I have a love for this song by Daft Punk and Pharrell called “Lose Yourself to Dance” and it has this beautiful mix that I like to call “Melancholy Disco.” Basically dancing with your feels in motion haha. So for LO I knew that I wanted to go for that type of mood with the beat that I made, which is a mix of “Melancholy Disco” and Electronic Pop. This summer has been insane to say the least, but taking this time to focus on my music, all the collaborations and even my second album, this song is one of many that I’m proud of and I’m glad that I got to work with LO who is an amazing artist and friend.”
THE HONEY: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LYRIC OF THE SONG? BREAK IT DOWN FOR US!
LO: “Back roads with my hair everywhere
I don’t care
Turn the radio up
Don’t turn it down”
“My favorite thing to do ever is chase sunsets, down backroads, with the windows down and music blasting. I feel like I’m in an indie rom-com when I do it – but it’s really just my favorite way to be alone and think.”
