RIGHTFIELD NEW RELEASE ONE TRICK PONY

Today we would like to introduce you to a pretty cool duo called Rightfield. We see them blowing up pretty soon as they already have it all down; the sound, the aesthetic, the mentioning of ‘One Tree Hill’ in our very first interview…. These guys know what they’re doing. We wanted to hear from them on everything that went into their most recent release, “One Trick Pony,” and what’s coming next for them. And if you are tempted to see them live, like we are, you can check them out at their next show at Ruins on July 16th!

THE HONEY: WHAT IS THE STORY/MESSAGE WITH YOUR SONG ‘ONE TRICK PONY’? WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION?

RIGHTFIELD: “I answer what it’s about in the next section but as far as inspiration goes, we wanted it to sound like you could pull it straight out of an early season of ‘One Tree Hill’. The song feels to me like something someone would write about Dan Scott. A bitter man that tasted success and has made that the pentacle of his life in his mind, and never recovered from that busted reality.”

THE HONEY: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LYRIC OF THE SONG? BREAK IT DOWN FOR US!

RIGHTFIELD:

“‘Your Corvettes and Kools will only smoke so long

Till it’s iron and ashes in a cold garage’

This lyric makes me think of all the artists that have gone for this crazy dream and had short lived, temporary success. Houses full of guitars, amps and their favorite vinyls but now they just rot in their garage as the only time they have is for their bitter desk job and the life they never wanted. That picture is a giant fear of ours and that’s what the song is about. Realizing that success is honestly always temporary whether it’s cut short by failure or death. So at some point you have to stop valuing the cool cars and start thinking about what you have when the excitement goes quiet.”

THE HONEY: ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANT TO SHARE ABOUT ‘ONE TRICK PONY’? WHAT’S COMING NEXT??

RIGHTFIELD: “No doubt. One Trick Pony is the 2nd single off an LP we’re slowly releasing. The first one was Big Tex (totally a badass track) and the next one is called Boys Don’t Cry coming out June 24th, featuring our boy JordyPurp. The album is somewhat supposed to feel like an og Fast and Furious soundtrack, and if it was based in Texas. It’s the first project that we’ve made that we’re really psyched about and feels authentic to us as a duo.”
