AZTEC EAGLES NEW RELEASE OCEAN DRIVE

We would like to introduce you guys to a new alternative rock band based in San Antonio, Texas; The Aztec Eagles. They recently released their very first single “Ocean Drive,” but we have a feeling there is a lot more to come. (And we’re looking forward to it.) Our favorite part of this interview was finding out where part of the “Ocean Drive” chorus” I wanna kiss you” came from. Keep reading to find out!

THE HONEY: WHAT IS THE STORY/MESSAGE WITH YOUR SONG “OCEAN DRIVE”? WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION?

AZTEC EAGLES:

Autumn, Rhythm guitar: “The excitement of the potential of the relationship because we all know the lead up to the relationship is the peak, so fun.”

Carlos, Drummer: “”I guess it’s about a person who you keep chasing but they keep leaving you behind.”

Lexi, Bassist: “The story of the song is wanting someone so bad that all the toxic and all of the waiting was worth it. The inspiration was our drummer Carlos, he wrote the line in the chorus, ‘Ooh I wanna kiss you, your eyes look like pearls tonight… Take me to your ocean drive,’ because he heard my sister sing ‘ooh I wanna kiss you’ when we were having band practice.”

Conrad, Lead guitar: “When I hear the lyrics, it’s just being so obsessed with someone that it’s suffocating, my inspiration was diminished 7 chords.”

THE HONEY: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LYRIC OF THE SONG? BREAK IT DOWN FOR US!

AZTEC EAGLES:

Conrad: “’I wanna kiss you,’ because it’s such a catchy chorus, it gets stuck in your head.”

Carlos: “Favorite lyric is ‘I wanna kiss you,’ because it came from someone not in the band. I was in the bathroom and I heard Lexi’s sister sing that as she was running up the stairs and it clicked with what we were writing.”

Autumn: “I like “you left sand in my eyes, left me with sea glass for sight”  because it alludes to rose colored glasses for me. Seeing everything as more beautiful than it is because you’re so in love.”

Lexi: “My favorite lyric is “drag me into your ocean blue, I’ll drown if it means that I’m with you,” because it has so much depth. It means, if you go down, I go down. Your colors, your depths, your darkness, your unknowingness, your whole being is something i’m prepared to take.”

THE HONEY: ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANT TO SHARE ABOUT THIS SONG?

AZTEC EAGLES:

Conrad: “I wrote the solo on the spot at the studio and wouldn’t change a thing.”

Carlos: “It’s our first single but it certainly won’t be the last. It’s a catchy tune.”

Lexi: “We plan on continuing with our music and definitely have more songs and shows coming!”

Autumn: “As far as the release goes, I just hope our listeners can feel how much fun we had recording the song. It’s a major milestone for us as a band but it never felt like work.”
