Read on to hear from Luna Luna themselves on their newest release “Solo Tu,” their experience living in Austin so far and what they’re most excited about for their biggest tour yet!
THE HONEY: WHAT IS THE STORY/MESSAGE WITH YOUR SONG “SOLO TU”? WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION?
LUNA LUNA: “The song is about trying to find someone new but realizing that no one else gives you that same feeling that they do.”
THE HONEY: WHAT WAS THE CREATIVE PROCESS LIKE WHEN WRITING AND RECORDING “SOLO TU”?
LUNA LUNA: “Most of the song actually hit me all at once. One day, while I (Kavvi) was driving on my way to band practice, all of the melodies came to me pretty suddenly. I grabbed my phone and recorded them on my voice notes. The next time I was in the studio, we made the beat and flushed out the rest of the song for around a month.“
THE HONEY: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LYRIC OF THE “SOLO TU”? BREAK IT DOWN FOR US!
LUNA LUNA: “Fave line would definitely have to be ‘me tienes embobado y te conviene.’ Which translates to ‘you got me dumbfounded and it benefits you.’ We made it a point to write more of our songs in Spanish, and that led to us writing things that we would’ve never said in English. Some things just sound way cooler in Spanish.”
THE HONEY: WHAT WHAT INSPIRED YOU GUYS TO RECREATE “THE LOVERS” PAINTING BY RENE MAGRITTE AS YOUR COVER ART?
LUNA LUNA: ” I (Kavvi) think I randomly found that painting on Twitter and really admired it. I saved it to my phone knowing that I wanted to do something with it. When we finished Solo Tu, it was time. We prepared a lot for the shoot and were really happy with how it came out. Shout out Renè.”
THE HONEY: WHAT MADE YOU GUYS WANT TO MAKE THE MOVE TO AUSTIN FROM DALLAS? WHAT HAS THAT BEEN LIKE FAR FOR Y’ALL AS A BAND?
LUNA LUNA: “We all had spent a lot of time in Dallas and laid our foundation there. Eventually, we felt like it was time to make a move and see what else was out there. We made the decision to move together and it has brought a lot of new experiences for us – like playing Austin City Limits Music Festival and getting to meet a lot of new people. If you have always lived in one city your whole life, we definitely recommend getting out and exploring.”
THE HONEY: YOU GUYS ARE ABOUT TO HIT THE ROAD FOR YOUR BIGGEST TOUR YET! WHAT ARE Y’ALL LOOKING FORWARD TO THE MOST ABOUT TOUR?
LUNA LUNA: “We’re excited about getting to perform new music! I feel like we’re in a different place musically than we were last time we toured. Really looking forward to seeing how people are gonna react to the new sounds.”
THE HONEY: IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU GUYS WANT TO SHARE ABOUT YOUR RELEASE?
LUNA LUNA: “I think it’s a great song to play in the summer, whether on your way to or back from going out with friends. It’s a nighttime song for sure, and I like that it doesn’t sound like anything we’ve released before. Thanks to everyone that listens. 💙”
