BLUE CAPRICORN NEW RELEASE: I’M BEGINNING TO RUST

Blue Capricorn’s new single, “I’m Beginning to Rust”, takes us on a journey through peaceful melodies of his recollection of the ocean. The intro alone brings a certain nostalgic feeling of Deja vu that I just couldn’t shake. The beautiful harmonies married with the use of strings add an unexpected layer to the luminous atmosphere of his experience. We got the chance to tap in with Blue Capricorn about the vision behind this special project.

THE HONEY: WHAT IS THE STORY/MESSAGE WITH YOUR SONG? WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION?

BLUE CAPRICORN: The inspiration for this song came together when I took a trip to Florida back in July. One night, I was out on the beach and I noticed how much I love the ocean. I’ve always been a beach boy of sorts but since that was my first time being next to the ocean in a while, I became infatuated by it at one point. But then I thought, “oh wow, I love the ocean but…. does it love me back? Probably not.” Realistically, I cannot benefit from what the ocean could give me, therefore I begin to “rust” because the feelings aren’t mutual. It’s like being down bad for someone that doesn’t feel the same way about you. You wonder what you can do to prevail and win this person over, but in my case, we’re dealing with a body of water. So then I put this track together and at the time I was listening to a lot of dream pop and ambient artists like Mazzy Star, Grouper, and The Cinematic Orchestra so I wanted to take my chance to showcase my dreamlike side and keep presenting my versatility throughout my work. This track also showed the first time I ever introduced strings and horns into anything I’ve ever done. My producer Ian was a huge part of the strings and horns too so a major shout-out to him. Every time I listen to it, I honestly surprise myself because I didn’t think I’d ever put something out like that. It’s definitely a favorite of mine.

THE HONEY: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LYRIC OF THE SONG? BREAK IT DOWN FOR

US!

BLUE CAPRICORN: I want to say it’s “I’d say I’m peaceful / eres mi todo”.

What I’m saying there is how peaceful I’m feeling by being beside the ocean. Witnessing it and smelling the rawness and the green richness of the ocean breeze brought me peace. “Eres mi todo” is a Spanish lyric translated as “you are my everything”, which tells everyone what the ocean means to me. I felt like I needed to incorporate Spanish into this track in particular because it’s really important to me to let everyone know who I am. I always strive to bring my heritage to light and utilize it in an uncommon way. It felt right with this song and I’m happy that I got to achieve that.
