JAY VASQUEZ NEW RELEASE TALK! FT. NRTH
DFW based artist Jay Vasquez has released another single titled, “Talk!,” following his previous release titled “Smile.” We’re seeing a pattern here and we’re curious what the next one will be called. “Talk!,” became extra special to us once Vasquez shared a little bit about his friendship with featured DFW artist NRTH. Theres nothing more we love than seeing local talent working together to make something special and “Talk!” is exactly what that is.
THE HONEY: WHAT IS THE STORY/MESSAGE WITH YOUR SONG? WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION?
JAY VASQUEZ: “Well for one, I hate loud mouths and people who make excuses. So, if that’s all you gon’ do? You might as well not even be around me… you feel me? I’d rather let the passion for my craft and art speak for itself. If you gon’ speak about it, be about it, simple. The universe hears that and here lately I’ve been seeing too many folk get caught up in all the rah-rah of a list or being mad at somebody else all cuz’ they utilizing they 24… be the change YOU wanna see that’s all, that’s where the inspiration ultimately came from.”
THE HONEY: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LYRIC OF THE SONG? BREAK IT DOWN FOR US!
JAY VASQUEZ: “I think my personal favorite bar was in that third verse: ‘I’ll be dammed if my light dims at the peak of my prophecy.’ To me it’s always been bigger than music. I make music for me, yes, but I also stand and create for those that feel like they don’t have a voice so when you hear something like that from me it’s more along the lines of ‘I’ll be immortalized regardless,’ I ain’t ever gon’ stop fighting you know? Not only for myself through, my own personal demons… but also for my people. I refuse to lose and I also refuse to listen to someone tell me I can’t do something. Because at that point ima’ laugh in your face and proceed to make sure I find joy in proving you wrong.”
THE HONEY: ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANT TO SHARE ABOUT THIS SONG?
JAY VASQUEZ: “Most definitely shout out my dawg NRTH that’s my brother, he came through and bodied it for me as expected. He always shines through on the joints we got together and I think we have a God given chemistry that allows us to push one another to that next level. We’ve been working together for years and I think it’s felt but this one right here is just special. I felt it in the middle of writing it and recording it. Having him along with my other homie Cruise out in LA who helped me engineer and mix the record was a pleasure bruh.”
