Jahn Dough New Release Joyride
DFW artist Jahn Doughh just released his newest project “Joyride,” and it’s everything we wanted to hop in the car and cruise to. With shoutouts to Tia and Tamara we can’t help but feel a little nostalgic while listening to it. Not to mention the inspirational conversation he includes at the end of “Dope City,” that has us feeling some type of way.
THE HONEY: WHAT IS THE STORY/ MESSAGE WITH YOUR PROJECT? WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION?
JAHN DOUGH: “So, for the overall tape, the message I’m trying to convey is simply to find your place to relax and chill. Joyride is a collection of stories that depict me cruising around town and enjoying the benefits of life. There’s a lot of things happening in the world right now and it’s imperative we pay attention and be mindful of the movements, but it is also crucial that we take time to just relax and unwind. A quick mental break from the ruckus of life. That’s what this tape is. Just a mental break. Something you can put on when you’re relaxing, cruising on a Saturday or Sunday evening. My inspiration is fueld by life and the current mode I am in right now. I honestly feel like I am in a beautiful headspace to create and experiment freely with my sound. I want to be an artist who can touch his fans in various moods but still hold that same essence that makes me, me. Sonically, I was inspired by a plethora of sounds and artist. A lot of what I am inspired by is simply the music I listened to growing up or simply what’s got my attention at the moment. Too $hort, Dom Kennedy, Richie Rich, UGK, The Dungeon Family, Rappin’ 4-Tay, and Snoop really drive the mood for this tape.”
THE HONEY: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LYRIC OF THE SONG? BREAK IT DOWN FOR US!
JAHN DOUGH: “On the track “Dope City,” one of favorite lines or bars is, “I am just a black man, in my black Benz, with my black friends, black tent, black skin, my pinky ring got black gems.” Honestly that’s not the wittiest or profound bar from me but I just felt really dope writing that lol. I just wanted to highlight some of the dope stuff I am around on the daily and it all happens to be black.”
THE HONEY: IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANT TO SHARE ABOUT THIS PROJECT?
JAHN DOUGH: “What I want to share about this tape is: I had a great time making it and I hope all my fans and new listeners enjoy it as well. It’s a lot different tone than Obsidian and it’s been a dope process to create.”
